Old Family Recipes
Another TUMC Friday fun night brought out the best in our dessert categories, but that’s not to say the “old family recipes” theme left anything out for main dishes and sides. “Grilled” veggies and Harvard Beets, both fresh from Roy’s garden. The casseroles did not disappoint. Potato and cheese, green bean, and a hominy-and-sausage casserole with locally made sausage. Fresher fare included broccoli salad, fresh fruit, and cranberry Jello salad. Desserts included Grandma Rhoads Combo cookie bars (recipe included), strawberry and rhubarb bars with fresh rhubarb, pineapple cream pie, German chocolate cake, orange Jello/cottage cheese fluff salad, and Rick’s momma's strawberry dessert. All were amazing. This may have been the quickest we’ve ever rushed through the main meal to go straight to desserts—if we keep this up, we may need bigger dessert plates. While summertime commitments prevent some from being with us, it also offered others the opportunity to join when they usually aren’t able to. That’s what our monthly fellowship meal offers. A time to be together when we can, and knowing when we can’t, that we are missed. We spent plenty of time before and after discussing the background stories of our recipes, and, as always, time to fellowship and linger in conversations not always afforded at other times.
